1 John 3:16
NIV:  This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.
NAS:  We know love by this, that He laid down His life for us; and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
KJV:  Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
GWT:  We understand what love is when we realize that Christ gave his life for us. That means we must give our lives for other believers.
ASV:  Hereby know we love, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
BBE:  In this we see what love is, because he gave his life for us; and it is right for us to give our lives for the brothers.
